Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening cup on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
